Hi, we're Derek and Becca.
Both of us have tens of thousands of miles on yachts and small craft, from protected coastal waters to weeks long open ocean passages to dinghy racing. Besides working on other peoples’ boats, we've owned several. Currently we keep two cold molded wooden sailing sloops, a fiberglass downeast style power boat, and a fleet of small racing dinghies, kayaks, and SUPs.
We are both graduates of the University of Washington, where we competed nationally in collegiate sailing together, and members of American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC).
Derek is a member of the Society of Marine Surveyors (SAMS) as a Survey Associate in the United States. He is also a member of the International Institute of Marine Surveyors (IIMS) based in the United Kingdom. He holds a Professional Qualification in Yacht and Small Craft Marine Surveying from IIMS, and a Marine Standards Advisor certification from ABYC. Derek teaches appraisal and valuation (RE411) at the University of Washington, which helps when discussing valuation with a bank or an insurance company.
Prior to co-founding FINNASK Marine, Derek was a professional yacht captain, sailmaker, rigger, and Vice President of Development and corporate officer at a real estate investment trust (REIT) traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
Prior to co-founding FINNASK Marine, Becca was a professional yacht crew, sailmaker, graphic designer, and user experience designer. You have visited websites that she worked on.
